Where am I? Bright lights big city and the most people I have seen in one place in New Zealand this far, sunny Wellington was the destination after a 12 hour bus journey. The southern most city of the North Island, capital of New Zealand. Setting the scene a little..? Old fashioned shops, markets, botanical gardens, a cute little cable car and a mountain that overlooks the whole of the city, harbour and beach. Its beautiful! And the perfect mix between city and countyside life as the scenery that surrounds Wellington central puts the English lake district to shame! Cool things I've done... Wouldn't quite class it as 'cool' but the journeys in and out of Welly were probably the most eventful, stressful and chaotic of the last few days. Travelling from Turangi to Welly was a slight 8 hour detour due to the heavy snow about 10 miles into the journey! It made fit for a good snowball fight, making friends, silly games of heads up and beer at 8am but also a very sleepy and grumpy me! And if that journey wasn't exciting enough, going the ferry terminal this morning was a stressful ordeal at 7am! As Dennis- the person in possesion of our tickets decided to take a lie and wake up 10 minutes before we were due to check in at the ferry terminal- I was just about ready to tear all my hair out. But a few screaming phone calls, getting rather hysterical at the taxi driver- telling him to drive faster - and lots of grumpy stares directly at Dennis we made it, and I was so in need of coffee when we boarded the ferry! Food I've tried ('it's cultural' excuse of getting fat) L&P - Lemon and Paeroa "World famous in New Zealand" - New Zealands version of the Aussie "solo". Basically a step up from Tesco Value lemonade! |
