Food I've tried ('it's cultural' excuse of getting fat) For all cultural purposes I tried a Morro gold bar in Taupo, which was like a mixture between a mars bar and a boost- HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! And also gave some Japanese food a whirl, at a nightmarket in Rotoura with a Korean girl that I met. Pork Donburi and this omlette pancake thing was so yummy- why I never tried it sooner I don't know. | Where am I? The sun is shining through the clouds and making the water all sparkly in the sunlight as it flows down the super powerful rapids of Hukka falls, just north of Lake Taupo, in North land New Zealand. Setting the scene a little..? The geothermally active Lake Taupo and Rotoura make up the central North island of New Zealand. Powerful steam vents, natural spa's, hot springs and mud pools are plentiful across the region which create many touristy attractions alongside natural geysters and sulphur pools to visit. But the most significant thing to mention about Rotorua would be the incredible stench of egg's that plagues the town from the high sulphur levels rising from the ground. However the only amusing thing about the smellyness is being able to tell the tourists apart from the locals who are the only ones who aren't pinching their nose and pulling disgusted faces! Cool things I've done... So...(another adventerous story awaits).. trying to keep with my newfound healthyness, me and my latest friend Dennis the German (not menace.. unfortunatly) decided to trek to the aritiatia dam which was well known for its magnificant scene when they open the dam gates. However half way there we realised that the last time they opened the dam was in 30mins and we were 7km away! After many failed hitch hiking atempts, (even considered stealing a cow to ride) we gave up and just walked but obviously arriving late meant that the scene was least impressive- of just a lake and a dam.. wow :( So after stropping and refusing to walk the 15km back and not a soul in sight nor phone signal in true British style I sat on the path and sulked! And after making myself feel temporarily better, 3 ladies in walking gear appeared and I cheekily asked if we could steal a lift if they were heading back towards Taupo. They wern't :( But offered us a ride to the main road which we gratefully accepted. And after feeling very sorry for us they kept driving, fed us peanut butter museli bars and incredibly kindly took us all the way to Taupo- the complete opposite direction to their destination! My faith in all humainty was stored!!!!! Such lovely lovely ladies!! (THANKYOU) |
